Brian Blankinship is a systems mapper with Omplexity, facilitating groups to develop collective strategy rooted in awareness of the broader systems in which they are embedded. Brian is also responsible for putting systems into practice at Omplexity as it performs its day-to-day work.
Brian first developed an interest in the complexity of climate action more than 10 years ago while studying architecture as an undergraduate at the University of Michigan. Situated in the midwest, he took note of the contrast between the rigor of analysis being done to achieve sustainable building certificates and the apparent lack of critical thinking by many about how those same buildings plugged into the larger urban fabric. As he became acquainted with systems thinking a few years later, Brian began to see that intervening in a complex system would always be limited when the understanding of that system was based on analysis alone.
Brian is excited to use En-ROADS to cultivate a similar appreciation for dealing with dynamic complexity in many more people.
Before joining Omplexity, Brian worked with Taiwan’s first Certified B Corporation to catalyze the ecosystem for sustainable business in Asia with events and activities that cultivated collaboration among its many stakeholders.
